This week, the Karvil Machinery team successfully completed the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and packaging of a custom-built 10L Explosion-Proof Vacuum Sigma Mixer. The equipment has left our manufacturing facility and is currently en route to a client's laboratory in the United States.
This project perfectly demonstrates Karvil’s capability to tailor lab-scale mixing equipment to specific regional standards and extreme material requirements.
Our US-based client required a heavy-duty, laboratory-scale kneader for testing high-viscosity asphalt and bitumen mixtures. Mixing asphalt presents three major engineering challenges:
Extreme Heat Requirement: The material must be melted and maintained at very high temperatures.
Volatile Fumes: Heating asphalt releases flammable gases, making standard electrical setups a severe safety hazard.
US Voltage Compatibility: The machine needed to plug seamlessly into a standard North American lab environment without requiring a 3-phase industrial power upgrade.
Working closely with the client, our engineering team configured this 10L Vacuum Sigma Mixer with several specialized upgrades:
Plug-and-Play for US Labs: We custom-wired the entire system for 220V, 60Hz, Single Phase power, completely resolving the client’s facility constraints.
350°C Direct Electric Heating: To handle the stubborn bitumen, we integrated a 3kW electric heating system capable of safely reaching and sustaining 350°C (662°F).
Total Explosion-Proof (Ex-Proof) Design: Safety was non-negotiable. We equipped the mixer with a Siemens Innomotics Ex-proof motor, an Ex-proof vacuum pump, and a fully enclosed, heavy-duty explosion-proof electrical control cabinet built with premium Schneider components.
"Zero Dead Zone" Kneading: To prevent sticky asphalt from building up on the chamber walls, the mirror-polished SS304 Sigma blades were machined with an ultra-tight 3mm clearance.
Before shipment, the machine underwent a comprehensive dry-run test at our facility. The vacuum system successfully held at -0.09 Mpa, and the safety limit switch (which instantly stops the machine if the 2mm-thick upper lid is opened) performed flawlessly.
To ensure the equipment survives the long trans-Pacific transit, it was secured in an export-standard wooden crate featuring a 10cm pallet base for safe forklift handling and hinged lids for easy unboxing by the client.
At Karvil Machinery, we don't just sell standard machines; we build tailored solutions for complex mixing challenges. Whether you are processing asphalt, hot-melt adhesives, or conductive polymers, our engineering team is ready to assist.
