400L Hydraulic Tilting Sigma Kneader for Clay and Zeolite-Based Materials
Publish Time: 2026-08-18 Origin: Site
Karvil Machinery has recently completed the production of a 400L hydraulic tilting Sigma kneader mixer for the customer. The machine is designed for mixing clay and zeolite-based materials before granulation, with a focus on strong kneading performance, reliable operation and convenient batch discharge.
For cohesive and difficult-to-handle materials, selecting the right mixing equipment is important. The mixer needs to provide sufficient mechanical force while also allowing the processed material to be discharged efficiently after mixing.
This 400L Sigma kneader was configured specifically around these requirements.
Designed for Pre-Granulation Mixing
Clay and zeolite-based materials are often processed into granules for subsequent applications. Before granulation, the raw materials need to be mixed evenly so that the downstream process can operate consistently.
A Sigma kneader is well suited to this type of application because its two Sigma blades provide intensive mechanical action. During operation, the blades continuously fold, compress, shear and knead the material inside the mixing chamber.
This helps improve the uniformity of the mixture before it enters the granulation process.
A typical process can be arranged as:
Raw Material → Sigma Kneading & Mixing → Discharge → Granulation → Drying / Screening
The mixer can also be integrated with other equipment according to the customer's complete production process.
Why Hydraulic Tilting Discharge?
One of the key features of this machine is the hydraulic tilting discharge system.
Some clay and mineral-based materials can be cohesive and may not discharge easily through a conventional bottom outlet. With a tilting kneader, the complete mixing trough can be hydraulically tilted after mixing.
This allows the material to be removed more easily and reduces the need for manual intervention.
The hydraulic system also provides controlled movement during both tilting and resetting, making it suitable for regular batch production.
Heavy-Duty Sigma Blade Mixing
The machine is equipped with Sigma-type blades designed for intensive kneading.
The two blades can operate in both forward and reverse directions, while the blade speed is controlled through a frequency inverter.
For this machine:
Fast blade speed: 0–37 rpm
Slow blade speed: 0–26 rpm
Main motor: 30 kW
Blade-to-wall clearance: approximately 3 mm
The adjustable speed gives the operator greater control over the mixing process and allows the machine to be adapted to different material conditions.
SS304 Product Contact Parts
For this project, the parts in direct contact with the material are manufactured from SS304 stainless steel.
This includes the:
Mixing chamber
Sigma blades
Upper cover
The product-contact surfaces are mirror polished to provide a smooth internal finish.
The mixing chamber is manufactured with an 8 mm wall thickness, providing a robust construction for industrial operation.
Reliable Drive and Control System
The mixer uses a 30 kW, 4-pole Siemens Innomotics motor together with a hardened gear reducer.
A 30 kW frequency inverter is used for variable-speed control.
The electrical control cabinet is equipped with Schneider Electric components and provides control of:
Motor start and stop
Blade forward and reverse
Blade speed
Hydraulic tilting and reset
Hydraulic cover opening and closing
Jog operation
Emergency stop
The cover is also fitted with a safety limit switch. When the cover is opened, the mixer automatically stops operation.
These features are designed to make daily operation more convenient while providing additional protection for operators.
Built Around the Customer's Requirements
Industrial mixing equipment is rarely a one-size-fits-all product.
The appropriate mixer depends on factors such as material characteristics, moisture content, bulk density, required batch size, mixing time, discharge requirements and downstream processing.
For this Japanese project, Karvil Machinery configured the machine around the customer's clay and zeolite-based materials and pre-granulation process.
The final machine provides:
400L total volume | 250L working volume | 30 kW main drive | Hydraulic tilting discharge | SS304 contact parts
Other configurations can also be developed for different applications.
Karvil Sigma kneaders can be customized with options such as heating or cooling jackets, vacuum systems, different discharge arrangements, special materials of construction and customized electrical controls.
Factory Testing Before Shipment
Before delivery, the completed machine was tested at the Karvil Machinery factory.
The factory testing process included checking the blade rotation, variable-speed operation, hydraulic system, tilting and resetting functions, cover operation and overall mechanical performance.
Factory testing allows potential issues to be identified and addressed before the machine is shipped to the customer's site.
For export equipment, this is an important part of ensuring a smooth installation and commissioning process.
